The Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson

26th Governor General of Canada

The Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson arrived in Canada from Hong Kong with her family in 1942 and made the astonishing journey from penniless child refugee to accomplished broadcaster, journalist, and distinguished public servant in a multi-faceted lifetime. Madame Clarkson was Canada’s 26th Governor General from 1999 to 2005.

Director of Health Policy Research

National Institute on Ageing

Dr. Samir Sinha is the Director of Geriatrics at Sinai Health System and the University Health Network in Toronto and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Director of Health Policy Research at Toronto Metropolitan University’s National Institute on Ageing. A Rhodes Scholar, Samir is a highly regarded clinician and international expert in the care of older adults. In 2021, he was appointed to serve as a member of the Government of Canada’s National Seniors Council in 2021, and also recently led the development of Canada’s new National Long-Term Care Services Standard.

A member of the Abenaki Nation, Alanis Obomsawin is a filmmaker and producer at the National Film Board of Canada, where she has worked since 1967. Obomsawin’s body of work includes such landmark films as Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance (1993), documenting the 1990 Mohawk uprising in Kanehsatake and Oka, as well as her groundbreaking Incident at Restigouche (1984), a behind-the-scenes look at Quebec police raids on a Mi’gmaq reserve.

Raza M. Mirza

Institute for Life Course and Aging

Raza M. Mirza, PhD, conducts research at the University of Toronto's Institute for Life Course and Aging where is an Assistant Professor (Status). He is also the Network Manager for the non-profit organization the National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly (NICE; www.nicenet.ca). Raza discovered the film festival in its inaugural year, as a panelist, and is thrilled to assist in the festival’s growth.

Abba Lustgarten is a renaissance man. He works as a software developer and consultant, is an avid musician, and long-time wood-turner.

Lori Ward

Senior director, Principal and Corporate Giving

Dalhousie University

Lori is a passionate Fund Development professional, who has served to advance the missions of inspiring Canadian charitable organizations for more than twenty years. Primarily focused on the arts and educational sectors, Lori has secured major funding for programs, capital projects and direct student support. Career highlights include leading the Dalhousie Performing Arts Campaign to expand and enhance facilities; inaugurating and growing a fund development program for the Roméo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative; and working on capital campaigns for the Coady International Institute at StFX and The Banff Centre. From 2003-2008, Lori served as a Director of the Banff Community Foundation, including two terms as Secretary of the Board. Lori holds a BA (Hons.) form Trent University, and a National Certificate in Fundraising Management from Mount Royal College.
